5D software launch

As you’ll know we have always sold and supported Husqvarna Viking software, with expert advice and specialist training in our dedicated computer room. What has changed though (and for the better) is the software itself! Gone are the days of MS-DOS programs, just 3 fonts and plotting every single point. Happily, Husqvarna Viking has invested heavily in cutting edge technology for both machine and software, which means that creating your own designs has never been easier.

The all new 5D embroidery system looks set to continue that advance! We’ll be launching 5D at the Festival of Quilts in August but if you want a preview of some of the new features, visit the website http://www.hv.5dembroiderysystem.com/ and sign up for news updates as they become available.

Software Saturdays

We’re so excited to tell you about the new ‘Software Saturday’ workshops due to start on 11th September. If you have Husqvarna Viking software you’ll be able to come along on a monthly basis, learn new skills through short exercises and get expert advice in our special clinic hour. The format will be as follows:
10am Coffee
10.30am-1.00pm Software Exercises
1.00pm - 2.00pm Software Clinic

As you’ll probably know, we have had a dedicated computer training room in the Studio since day one and Neil and Liz have been training you how to get the most from your embroidery software for many years now. Jayne Childs will be running Software Saturday; some of you may remember her software clubs and classes in previous years. Jayne is very keen to help you gain confidence in using your software and pass on many of the tips and tricks she has picked up using and teaching software.

Jayne loves using the internet for research and supporting her teaching. You can find her on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.

Software Class next Tuesday 18th May

Do you like machine embroidery but long to be more creative? Jayne Childs has devised just the course for you! Using lettering and monograms as her inpiration, Jayne will share all kinds of design techniques and tricks in this one days course.

Before Jayne left the studio in 2007, she was  inspired by the software club she ran to design and stitch a whole quilt using every program in the 4D professional software. The resulting 'Alphabet Quilt' is on display in the Studio now.

Jayne has used all of the 4D software programs to create the letters, including 4D Embroidery, Cross Stitcher, and 4D Fabric Decorator, so whatever 4D software you have you'll learn new skills for use at home. You won't spend all day glued to a screen though, in the afternoon you will stitch out the designs you've created.

It costs £28 and there's an equipment list provided. To book, either call us on 0115 9881550 or book online http://bit.ly/bUofLk

Embellisher Classes

Embellishing machines are great fun there is no threading, no tension, and no bobbin, just five special needles that felt layers of fabric together by meshing the fibers, fabrics, yarns, and more with the up and down movement of the needles.
Why not attend a two hour class (10.00-12.00)
with Sarah Lawerence on Saturday 30th Janaury to make some beautiful no stitch jewellery? The picture of the hearts and flowers is a sample from the class. A great way to learn new techniques or try an embellisher for the first time. Sarah is also running a full day Embellisher Playday class (10.00-4.00pm) on Wednesday 3rd February, the picture of the multi coloured piece of fabric is one of Sarah's samples created for the class.

New to Blogging?

We're fairly new to the world of blogs and other 'social networking' too! So we thought you might have a few questions for us, we've tried to answer them here.

  • What is a blog? Well, the word 'blog' is short for web-log, so think of a blog as an online journal or diary. We post entries in date order, the latest ones are listed at the top.

    • What is it for? Good question! Well, it is an easy way for us to tell you about the latest sewing news, products and help you get an insight into what goes on at Husqvarna Studio.
      • What is the difference between a blog and a website? Technically there's not really much difference between a blog and a website. But to us, it's an easy way of sharing new things with you, and most importantly you can comment on the posts so you can give us feedback, ask us questions and share with other sew-ers.
        • What are you going to blog about? We're going to try and blog about anything that happens in the shop, or might be relevant to fans of sewing. We're excited to share with you news about our courses, photos of our latest projects and classes, and tell you about new products that are arriving every day. We're going to try and update a couple of times a week, so keep coming back to see what's new (remember the new posts will be at the top, so they should be easy to find)
          • What should I do next? Well, you don't have to do anything, just keep visiting us. However, you can leave us a comment to say that you've read the post, the comments are displayed below each post. You know we love to hear from you on the phone or in the shop, so tell us here what you're doing, ask us a question or simply say hello!  We've left it so you don't have to sign in to comment so if you do, tell us your name and where you're from, so we know who you are.

If you'd like to know more about how to get more inspiration from other sew-ers across the world, why not take a short class in our computer room? Jayne is teaching a class called 'Internet Inspirations' on Tuesday 9th February 2010 1pm - 3.30pm or Saturday 10th April 10am-12.30pm. You can book by clicking here or by telephoning 0115 9881550. Remember to tell us the title and date of the course when you book!

            See you soon!
